Rokwil has set up a Stone Masons Centre of Excellence at Keystone Park, Hammarsdale. The COE welcomed its first intake of six trainees on 1st September 2015 and they were joined a month later by a second group of six trainees. All twelve apprentice stone masons were hand-picked from the local area with the help of ANC Counsellor, Dennis Shozi.
The apprentices are being taught the various aspects of the trade by experienced stone mason, Bongani Raisa, and his assistant trainer, Buyani Zulu. The training includes practical skills training in chisel and hammer carving, bricklaying, paving, cladding, etc. A certificate confirming the skills acquired by the apprentices will be issued to them at the end of 12 months.
Training is progressing well and the proud trainees were able to show off their skills when they erected a wall for a small entertainment area on the site of the new Keystone offices.
